About Noah’s Ark

Noah’s Ark was established as a sanctuary in 2004 by founders Fabio Ciappara and Mark Vella Bardon. The sanctuary rescues innumerable abandoned dogs and offers them comfort and medical care. Many of them move into ideal homes both locally and overseas.

There are presently around 100 dogs at Noah’s Ark. The sanctuary is financed by the generosity of private individuals and cared for by big-hearted volunteer workers. They are also at the forefront of campaigning for upgrading and enforcement of animal welfare laws, microchip registration of dogs nationwide, and responsible breeding.

Noah’s Ark cooperates with all animal welfare officials and NGOs. They are watchdogs for animal cruelty situations in the region. In 2009, it was Noah’s Ark that started the 24/7 national emergency ambulance service for stray dogs and cats, partly financed by the Ministry for Resources and Rural Affairs. This service has then been run by the government since January 2010.

We rely entirely on charitable contributions. The operational costs are approximately €2 per dog per day.

Noah’s Ark celebrated 17 years of operations on the 15th of November 2021.
